Today is the start of the third edition of 12xHolland. The first two participators of 12xHolland edition 2002 depart from Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam: Claudia Volders (painting) and Tejo Janssen (modern dance). At the airport, they say bye-bye to Studio E (Junko Ueda and Wil Offermans) starting the 24-hour travel via London, Tokyo and Fukuoka to Hirado.

Claudia and Tejo arrive about 20:00 at the airport of Fukuoka in southern Japan, where they meet with Oseki-san (12xHolland). They stay together for the night in a downtown hotel in Fukuoka, from where they will drive to Hirado the next morning.
After a 3-hour ride arrive Tejo, Claudia and Oseki-san in Tabira. There they take the specially chartered boat to Hirado. About 28 hours after leaving Holland they arrive in Hirado harbour where they are welcomed by the 12xHolland organization and other citizens of Hirado. On the welcome-party the participators meet with their host: for Claudia this are mr. Kasuya (ex-director of the Hirado elementary school) and ms. Iwamoto (art teacher at the Hirado junior high school); for Tejo this are ms. Machida Noriko and the 3B Gymnastic club.
 
Claudia inspects her new atelier (centrally located, opposite the bus stop in the harbour) together with host mr. Kasuya. At lunch they eat at the nearby fish restaurant Tokiwa. Later, Claudia meets with mr. Matsuo, the head of the Hirado junior high school. In another meeting she discusses her program for this month in Hirado with her hosts (mr. Kasuya and ms. Iwamoto) with Tycho-san assisting for doing the translation. Tejo and Machida-san make an extended walk through historical Hirado. At night Claudia and Tejo are the guests at a party of the Hirado Tourist Information Office.
  
In the morning Claudia is working to install the atelier and prepare for the opening. Next, together with Noriko-san, Inohara-san (3B club) and Morii-san (painting club), Tejo and Claudia visit the major of Hirado, mr. Shirahama.
  
In the afternoon Tejo has his first nichibu-dance lesson with Kitani-sensei, where he studies the dance Kotobuki (Happy Event). At night Tejo joins the 3B gymnastic training. Claudia has her first shodo-lesson (Japanese calligraphy) with master Tateishi Riichoro, who introduces her to the theory of the art of shodo.
Claudia spends the morning in her atelier. In the afternoon, she presents her first painting workshop for the Hirado Watercolour Group at the Hokubu Kouminkan.
  
At night Tejo, not only a dancer but also a body-movement-therapist, presents a lecture at a meeting of local physiotherapists (his translator was Kuwahara-san).
Claudia and Tejo visit the neighbouring island of Ikitsuki with Machida-san. In the evening Tejo enjoys his first shodo lesson with Tateishi-sensei.

In the morning Tejo and Claudia visit the historical Matsura Museum. Next, Tejo has his second nichibu-dance lesson with Kitani-sensei. Claudia, together with her host group, finalize the preparation of her atelier for the opening. At 18:00 there is the opening ceremony of the atelier and many citizens come to join this event. Host Kasuya-san and Ideguchi-san (City Hall Education Dept. head) hold some speeches and Tejo presents a dance solo inside as well as outside the atelier. At night Tejo does his first dance workshop with the 12xHolland dance group outside in the harbour. He will direct and perform a dance with this group on the upcoming Haiya Dance Festival on September 22nd.
  
  
in the early morning Claudia travels by bus together with about 70 children to participate the Sketch Festival in and around the temple gardens of Kigatsu to present her sketch workshop (translator Yamada Yukari-san also made these pictures). Tejo visits the sports day at the Yuukoukan high school together with Machida-san and watches the traditional Haiya dance. At night he does a workshop with the 3B Gymnastic Group in the Hokubu Kouminkan with music by Miles Davis (translation by Yamada Yukari-san).
  
After a most insentive week in Hirado, today Claudia is enjoying a day off. In the evening Tejo continues his workshop with the 3B Gymnastic Group in the Bunka Centre (Cultural Centre of Hirado).
Today Claudia and Tejo have nothing on the schedule and enjoy their free day.
In the morning Tejo visits the Yukohji temple - accompanied by Claudia - for his first zazen lesson with the Buddhist monk Tsuchiya-sensei. Later that day Tejo enjoys his third nichibu dance lesson with Kitani-sensei. In the evening he presents a video lecture at the Chuubu Kouminkan (in central Hirado) about the developments in the dance during the last century. Claudia has a second shodo-calligraphy lesson with Tateishi-san.

In the morning Claudia presents a drawing workshop in her atelier for about 10 participators with Tamura Miyuki-san as a model. In the afternoon Claudia does the same workshop, but now for the members of the Water Color Group with now Tejo as the model (translator is Tycho-san). At night, a third drawing workshop takes place in the Nanbu Public Hall, where Claudia is assisted by Iwamoto-sensei.
 
Tejo does another workshop for the 3B Gymnastic Group in the Bunka Centre (CC Hirado).
Claudia travels, with translator Tycho, to the small and local elementary school of Ohkawara. Together with about 20 students (6-12 years) she paints a 30 meter long wall. Today Tejo visits the old peoples house Wadatsumi-no-Sato where he presents a body workshop assisted by Machida Noriko-san and translator Tamura Miyuki-san. Tejo, who used the opportunity to do his personal training in the large hall of the Hokubu Kouminkan (northern community centre) in the afternoon, has another shodo calligraphy lesson with Tateishi-sensei in the evening.
  
Claudia visits the Shijiki Elementary School in southern Hirado. here she does a drawing workshop for about 100 kids, creating one huge plant by connecting the drawings. Claudia and translator Tycho enjoy the lunch together with the children. Tejo has another nichibu dance lesson with Kitani-sensei and does his workshop for the 12xHolland Dance Group in the evening.
  
This weekend is a sort of quiet for 12xHolland. Today, only Tejo holds his dance workshop for the 12xHolland Dance Group in the Bunka Centre.
Claudia and Tejo visit together with Machida-san the cultural festival of the Yuukoukan highschool in Hirado. Tejo does his usual evening workshop for the 3B Gymnastic Group in Hokubu Kouminkan.
