Diary: September 16th - 30th

September 16th 2001
Jac worked in his atelier and made some Mandala pictures and hang them on the wall in atelier. Marieke did her private exercise in the morning at Hirado Bunka Cente, as well as a dance workshop where Yukari joined as a student as well as an interpreter, with a total of four students. Marieke made them meditated first as it was a wonderful Sunday morning. In the afternoon she held a teaparty at her apartment, whereafter her host mr.Inoue her invited for a dinner at a local Sushi restaurant.

September 17th 2001
In Marieke's nichibu dance lesson by Ms Kitani she now almost studied the whole dance. Now, she is ready to dance wearing a kimono. Ms.Kitani is very surprised Marieke learned so fast. (Interpreter was Eiko Oseki). In the afternoon, Eiko took Marieke to the Sea View Ranch restaurant near Senrigahama beach. Marieke liked it very much, relaxed and had a good time with Eiko-san. In the evening, there was another dance workshop for adults (interpreter was Yukari Yamada-san).
In the morning, Jac presented a painting workshop at the Hirado elementary school for the 2nd grade with 33 children. The theme was "flower".

September 18th 2001
Marieke presented two workshops for 1st and 2nd grade at Tasuke elementary school (interpreter was Jeroen-san). She was welcomed by all 130 pupils singing enthusiastically. They enjoyed dancing together with Marieke and playing games pretending to hand fireballs. From 19:00 Marieke gave again her dance workshop for children (at Hirado Junior High). Interpreter was Yukari Yamada. Jac gave this morning a workshop for handicaped pupils at Hirado Junior High. Pupils did great work by Jac's energetic guidance and Mr.Tanzawa's translation. In the afternoon he went to the beach to get energy for next workshop at beautiful Tsuyoshi. At night (19:00-21:30) Jac did a 3rd workshop at Tsuyoshi painting club (interpreter Jeroen). Mr.Ito, their leader told that Jac's workshop strongly stimulates the participators to deal with a totally new concept concerning the creation of a painting.

September 19th 2001
From today, Jac starts a daily painting workshop at the Hirado elementary school. At night he works again with the Hirado aquarel cub. The same evening, Marieke does another dance workshop for adults in the Yûkokan high school.

September 20th 2001
Jac and Marieke are enjoying a afternoon with various meda: NHK-tv does a preparing interview with Marieke for the live broadcasting on September 26th, while NIB-tv interview both the 12xHolland participators (which will be broadcasted on September 24th). Jac does his daily painting workshop at the Hirado elementary school. Marieke works at night with her children dance group.

September 21st 2001
Jac does his daily painting workshop at the Hirado elementary school for various groups of the lower classes. Marieke has another nichibu dance lesson with Kitani-sensei. At night she does a workshop with all participators for the upcoming Haiya Dance Festival (September 23rd).

September 22nd 2001
'In the afternoon Jac presents an open painting workshop in the gymnastic hall of the Hirado elementary school.There are over 25 participators from various ages. Marieke has her last rehearsal with her presentation with her dance group for the Haiya Dance festival.

September 23rd 2001
Today is the annual Haiya Dance Festival Hirado, where dance groups from various places in Japan gather for a crowd of more than 1000 people. At this festival Marieke presents her dance solo as well as her dance workshopgroups, which she has been training during the last 3 weeks. At night she repeats both dances once again. Jac works intensively on his Madala paintings and his wonderful restored atelier gets more and more decorated with his paintings.

September 24th 2001
While Jac has another intensive day at his atelier, Marieke visits Kitani-sensei for another nichibu dance lesson. At night there is another dance workshop for adults. After midnight, both members of the 12xHolland artistic committee (Junko Ueda and Wil Offermans) arrive in Hirado from Holland. They will stay in Hirado until October 9th.

September 25th 2001
Jac continues his series of 'action-painting' workshops at the Hirado elementary school. In the morning Marieke does a dance workshop at the Shijiki elementary school. At night again there is the workshop for children in Hirado.

September 26th 2001
Marieke has her last nichibu-dance lesson by Kitani-sensei, who has been teaching her a complete dance in about 3 weeks time. In the afternoon she does a dance presentation and workshop at the Wadatsumi-no-sato old-people's house in Tsuyoshi. The dance wokrshop which Marieke presents at night in the Bunka Centre Hirado is broadcasted live for several minutes at NHK-TV.

Jac has the opening of his 'Mandala' exposition in the back-room of his atelier. In this impressive Japanese old-style room, a tea ceremony is held by Mineko Hotta-sensei, assisted by Iwamoto-sensei.

September 27th 2001
From early in the morning, Jac, Kasuya-san, Oseki-san and Nishiyama Kaoru-san leave Hirado by a huge boat arranged by Kasuya-san for a nice fishing day around the small vulcanic rock island Ajika-jima. In the morning Marieke gives a dance workshop at the Tasuke elementary school. At night she presents her last dance workshop at the Bunka Culture Centre in Hirado.

September 28th 2001
Jac presents his 'mandala' painting Hirado's Ocean to the major of Hirado, Shirahama-san. He came - accompanied with the usual press people-to the atelier of Jac, where the paining was presented. At night Jac has his last painting workshop for 12xHolland at the Hokubu-Kouminkan with about 20 participators of the Hirado aquarel club. Oseki Aki-san is the interpreter. Marieke has a bye-bye party with the children she has been working with/ At the Koumyou-ji temple they had nice food and even made a children disco in the temple!

September 29th 2001
Jac has to break down his expositions at the City Hall, the Healing Centre and the Shinwa Bank. Later today he visits the Tenkei-ji temple in Tasuke-cho, where a special 'moon-watching-tea-ceremony' took place.At night, his host Kasuya-san organized a bye-bye party at the Seifû restaurant, from you have a splendid view over the Hirado bay and the Hirado Castle. Today, Marieke has her final dance presentation. She choose the location of the Hirado Oohashi-koen park, which is located just under the Hirado Bridge and directly at the ocean-side. She danced; her solo 'Softness', her choreography 'Gravity' with her workshop dance group and the nichibu-dance Hana-no-Tekomai (which she has been studying with Kitani-sensei). Besides, the Fûjin-shachu Junior dance group from Hirado presented their Haiya 2000 dance. At night she has a big bye-bye party, organised by her host Inoue-san.

September 30th 2001
After many days of fabulous blue-sky weather, today Hirado is receiving lots of rain. The 12xHolland participators are packing their things and preparing for their departure from Hirado tomorrow afternoon. Today, also both October participators for 12xHolland are departing from Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. These are Tjerk Ridder (actor) and Merlijn Twaalfhoven (composer). They will arrive in Hirado tomorrow afternoon.
