Ralph van Raat (1978): Pianist

After graduating the Amsterdam Sweelink Conservatory, he has continued his piano study at Paris and in the USA. At this moment he is studying ethnomusicology at the University of Amsterdam. He has won various well-known modern music piano concours in Europe and giving numerous piano recitals in Europe, Africa and the USA. He is one of the most talented young pianist in Holland and appearing frequently at radio, tv and on CD recordings.

Activities for 12xHolland in Hirado:

• Piano recitals at various locations.
• “Discovering the Piano” workshop at various schools. Introducing prepared piano with pieces of John Cage and singing Dutch and Japanese songs together with his accompaniment.
• Piano master class for voluntary group.
• Cooperation with the local music group and creating a performance for the Hirado Culture Festival on the 3 November.
• Cooperation with a Haiku club and aquarelle painting club, creating works inspired by each other.
• Researching Hirado Okunchi Festival.
• Receiving lessons in Shamisen and Shakuhachi.
